12V vs 24V Linear Actuator: Which Voltage Should You Choose?
Both 12V and 24V DC linear actuators are common. The right voltage depends on power supply, current draw, controller design, cable length, and the equipment environment.
Choose 12V when
- The project is powered by a 12V battery or vehicle system
- The actuator is small or moderate load
- Short cable length and simple control are expected
Choose 24V when
- The actuator has higher force or longer duty cycle
- Lower current draw is useful for the wiring system
- The controller or machine platform already uses 24V DC
For the same power level, a 24V system usually draws less current than a 12V system. This can matter for wiring, connectors, and controller sizing.
What to include in an RFQ
Send voltage, force, stroke, speed, duty cycle, feedback requirement, cable length, connector, and installation space. These details help confirm whether a 12V or 24V actuator direction is more suitable.
